Beyond a Cute Dog Painting: Gracie
"She had a deep love of treats, and especially vegetables, clamoring loudly for trimmings of carrots, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and even cabbage during meal prep. "
Gracie
”Grace, a Rat Terrier, was born sometime around the year 2000. We never knew precisely how old she was, as she spent the first third of her life in a cage, as a breeder dog in a puppy mill in western North Carolina. She was eventually liberated in a police raid, along with another 148 Rat Terriers, and several Great Danes, all of whom were kept in the most appalling conditions imaginable.
After liberation, she was put up for adoption, and chose Lisa Price as her forever Mom. Grace had to learn to be a free dog, and the way back was difficult. For months she stayed under a bureau in the bedroom, coming out only to go outside. With much love and encouragement, she gradually became part of the pack, and even grew, in her quiet way, to be the leader.
She was indomitable- her early life had made her tough, and she was scrappy. When her pack needed straightening out, she took care of business, and quickly, tolerating no foolishness from Stella and Prissy, her two sisters.
She had a deep love of treats, and especially vegetables, clamoring loudly for trimmings of carrots, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and even cabbage during meal prep. She was a vital part of our lives. She blessed us with her presence for more than 12 years. We sent her across the rainbow bridge on March 20, 2021, when it became clear that prolonging her life only meant prolonging her suffering.
She is survived by her dog parents- Duane and Lisa Price, and by her two sisters, Stella and Prissy. She has as well two “step-sons”, Dalton and Zachary Price, and numerous friends and loved ones. She is terribly missed, but lives on in our hearts.”

What I have been reading about dogs and culture :
Dogs Can Have Human-Like Anxiety. They Need Human-Like Treatment. As with people, some dogs may be more neurologically prone to anxiety. But canine stress is often mistaken for mischief
Dogs (and Cats) on a Plane As flying commercial with pets becomes increasingly difficult, animal owners are turning to private aviation. A new airline is making a bid for those with fur babies.
Howl We’ve all heard canines, both wild and tame, singing the mournful, mysterious songs. What do they mean ?
